We all understand how important light is for the world we live in, and when it comes to the lighting inside your home it is just as important. Lighting influences everything from how we feel, to the color and mood of a room, it even influences how productive we are. There is nothing like the power of a well lit, beautifully selected and perfectly placed light fixture.
Today, I am excited to reveal the lighting selections in the Modern Cape Cod Great Room and share design tips on how you can use my same methods to help you in selecting the perfect lighting for your home.
Understanding lighting your Space
First, start by understanding the size of the room are you filling. The size of your light fixture should correlate with the size of the room you are installing it in.
Second, map out your furniture layouts.
Third, think about the tasks that will need to be accomplished in the space that you are lighting.
Last, consider all sources of light from natural to artificial
Let’s talk about the Modern Cape Cod’s Great Room Allendale light from Hudson Valley Lighting. The ceilings in this space are 21′ high, because of this, I knew that the right size light fixture would be key in helping to ground the room and bring into focus the floor to ceiling windows.
Next, Layer the Light
Start by always being purposeful in your lighting selections
Next, consider how many light bulbs will the light fixture will need to produce adequate light at all times of the day and night for your space
Do you want to have a family of lighting featured in the same space like I did with the Allendale Hudson Valley Lighting family.
Last, select bulbs for your lighting that will add to the style and look of the room. Make sure the bulbs are approved for use in the lighting fixture you have selected.
The Modern Cape great room measures 24 feet wide by 31 feet deep, understanding that I wanted to be able to fully light the room at night, while also being able to dim the lighting to set the perfect ambiance for intimate gatherings. The Allendale light from Hudson Valley Lighting achieves this perfectly.
Finding and Sourcing your Lighting
First, decide on a realistic budget. Think of lighting as the jewelry for your home.
Second, your lighting selections should have a cohesive feel as you move from room to room.
Third, look at trusted suppliers to fulfill your lighting needs and use the filter tool sorting by size, shape, color, and price.
Last, when in doubt ask a designer! I love helping clients with design selections, no matter what stage of the project they are in. Contact me today for a quote on your project.
The Modern Cape Cod lighting selections were designed around blending a modern look with a traditional past. While the Modern Cape Cod style speaks to me, a home should be unique to you. It should be made up of all the things that you love and can’t live without.
