I love getting asked about the lighting selections on our Parade 2019 project, it is one of the most frequently asked questions I get. That’s why I am sharing a whole post dedicated to the Parade 2019 lighting selections.
Lighting fixtures are the statement piece of every space.
I could write a small book about how important lighting fixtures are…
First: Find your lighting style
-
When you think of your room’s style try and see if you can label or describe it. Are you a traditional, coastal, contemporary, if you are unsure of the style think about how you want your room to feel.
-
Do you use words to describe your style as detailed and comfortable? Then your style might be Traditional and you might find yourself drawn more to the Hudson Valley Lighting – Alldendale chandelier.
-
If you describe your style as soothing and inviting, it might be Coastal, and you might find yourself drawn to the Hudson Valley Light Bridgitte.
-
I always start by trying to define my client’s design style. Doing this will make it easier to narrow down your lighting choices. I describe the 2019 Parade as a ‘Modern Cape Cod’ with the desire to bring a comfortable style to a classic design. I chose most of my lighting fixtures from Hudson Valley Lighting Group and mixed styles and finishes throughout keeping a uniform timeless look.
-
Don’t let your defined style contain your lighting selections. Look for timeless elements in a modern fixture. Doing this will allow you to blend your style with the overall look you are trying to achieve.
Second: Select the light that is right the right size for your space
-
Knowing the size of your room will help determine the size of the light fixture and the number of bulbs you will need in your light. There are many ways to determine what the right light for your space will be. You do not always have to source lights that are traditionally installed in the defined space. I used a beautiful chandelier over the dining table that showcases the use of an oversized chandelier, typically seen in family rooms.
Third: Choosing the lightings metal finish
This is a fun question I get asked often. Many people think the finishes of lighting, plumbing, and hardware all need to match exactly. While finishes look good when they do match, it is just as important for the style of the fixture to fit with the overall aesthetic of the home. Don’t let the light fixtures finish dictate your choice.
-
Mix color families: I often mix polished chrome and polished nickel. The trend right now is to use gold-tone finishes, which I love.
-
Accent with matte black – any finish looks great with a matte black accent.
-
Try polished and brushed metals in the same color family. This brings a fun change in color texture or temperature. Finishes do not need to match exactly. Here is an example of how I mixed polished and brushed gold finishes in the Master Bath.
I hope you enjoyed my recap of our Parade 2019 Modern Cape Lighting Selections. Thanks for reading, and happy light fixture shopping.
